IZIBET Amateur League: Mtarfa secure promotion

Mtarfa secured promotion to the Challenge League as they defeated Mdina Knights in a top-bottom clash in Group A of the IZIBET Amateur League at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

With three games to go, Mtarfa lead by ten points over second-placed Birzebbuga St. Peter’s.

Saturday Nanapere put Mtarfa ahead on the 37th. Kurt Borg doubled the score eight minutes in the second half and three minutes later, he converted a penalty before Nanapere scored a fourth goal on the 59th.

At the Sirens Stadium, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s defeated Qrendi 1-0 thanks to a goal by Leejoe Schembri one minute from the end of the first half.

At the Luxol Stadium, Kalkara United rescued a point in a 1-1 draw with Xghajra Tornados thanks to a goal three minutes in added time. Kenneth Abela put Xghajra ahead on the 16th but Jordie Bajada equalised on the 93rd.

In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Pembroke Athleta came from behind to defeat Siggiewi 4-1. Jake Milwyn Davies put Siggiewi ahead on the 8th but Weverton Gomes equalised on the 35th and six minutes later, Maverick Cassar made it 2-1. Gomes increased the lead on the 68th before wrapping the win up with another goal three minutes in added time.

Mtarfa lead the way with 50 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 40, Qrendi 35, Mqabba and Xghajra 31, Mellieha and Pembroke 29, Rabat 28, Sta. Venera 20, Kalkara 15, Siggiewi 11 and Mdina 1.
