Mgarr United moved a step closer to promotion as they defeated Qormi 2-1 in a match from Group B of the IZIBET Amateur League at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
Mgarr enjoy a six point lead over Marsaskala despite having a game in hand with Qormi and Gharghur lying nine points behind them.
Nicholas Schembri put Mgarr ahead on the 14th and although Jake Bone equalised on the 80th, Mgarr were quick to regain the lead courtesy of Jamie Lee Micallef three minutes later.
A goal by Vivi-Gaetan Mahop on the 57th handed San Gwann a narrow win over Marsaskala at the Sirens Stadium.
St. George’s defeated Ta’ Xbiex 6-3 at the Sirens Stadium. Timothy Thomas put the Saints ahead on the 5th but Ta’ Xbiex turned the score in their favour thanks to goals by Nicky Vella on the 21st and Stefi Cale on the half hour. Morientes Muscat made it 2-2 on the 36th but Stefi Cale restored the lead for Ta’ Xbiex on the 39th. However just before end of the first half, Haruna Shola Shodija equalised. In the second half, Timothy Thomas made it 4-3 on the 64th and in added time, Thomas and Rudy Cassar scored another two goals to increase the lead further.
At the Luxol Stadium, Kirkop United beat Gharghur 5-0. Nestor Luis Silva put Kirkop ahead on the 19th. Giovanni Galea doubled the score six minutes in the second half. Silva added another on the 80th and one minute from time, Dhonatan Santos da Hora extended the lead further before Dale Tabone made it 5-0 three minutes in added time.
In another match, a Jurgen Gerada hat-trick handed Ghaxaq a comfortable win over Dingli Swallows at the Sirens Stadium. Gerada scored on the 22nd, 88th and 90th.
Mgarr lead the way with 40 points, followed by Marsaskala on 34, Qormi and Gharghur 31, San Gwann 29, St. George’s 28, Vittoriosa 25, Kirkop 23, Ghaxaq 13, Dingli 7 and Ta’ Xbiex 6.
Meanwhile in Group A, Mellieha were held in a 2-2 draw by Santa Venera Lightnings at the Luxol Stadium. Luka Mijic put Mellieha ahead on the 8th and Jack Vella doubled the score on the 36th. Richmond Baratuipre Hanson reduced the gap on the hour and four minutes from time, Warren Zerafa levelled matters.
