After defeating Hibernians and earning a point in a draw with Balzan, Naxxar Lions collected three precious points thanks to a 2-0 win over Birkirkara at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Thursday.
A win which although leaves the LIons in seventh place, they move to just one point behind the Paolites and two behind fourth-placed Marsaxlokk and Birkirkara. Hibs and Marsaxlokk, however, have a game in hand.
For the Stripes, this was yet another disappointing result following two draws in the previous two matches.
Naxxar took the lead on the 37th minute when Pablo Augusto Servo de Carvalho rounded a defender before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Marcel Zapytowski from the left.
Nine minutes from time, the Lions doubled the score courtesy of a Joao Vitor Moura Cardoso header off a freekick from the left by Neil Pace Cocks.
