Willis Furtado hands Floriana 2-0 win in Old Firm derby

A brace by Willis Furtado brought Sliema Wanderers’ positive run to an end as Floriana defeated their Old Firm rivals 2-0 at the National Stadium on Saturday.

The Greens move, at least temporarily on top the BOV Premier League table as they await the result of the clash between Hamrun Spartans and Marsalokk later on Saturday.

For the Wanderers, this was the first defeat in fourteen league matches. In fact, ironically, it was Floriana who had defeated them in the first round clash in November.

Following a goalless first half, Floriana took the lead on the 53rd minute thanks to a great freekick by Willis Furtado which beat goalkeeper Rashed Al-Tumi.

Eight minutes from time, Willis Furtado converted a penalty after Oualid El Hasni was fouled inside the area by Al Tumi.

Maksim Valdazko received a second yellow card on the 90th, therefore leaving his side in ten men in the dying minutes.
