IZIBET Amateur League: Mgarr United promoted

Mgarr United will be playing in the Challenge League next season after winning Group B of the IZIBET Amateur League thanks to a 2-0 win over Vittoriosa Stars at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Jurgen Suda put Mgarr ahead on the 13th minute and four minutes later, Christian Ebisindor Saint doubled the score.

In antoher match at the Centenary Stadium, Gharghur defeated Qormi 3-0 courtesy of Nicholas Formosa on the 27th, Samuel Agius four minutes in the second half and Robert Ciantar two minutes in added time.

Mgarr lead the way with 43 points, followed by Marsaskala on 37, Gharghur 34, Qormi 31, San Gwann 29, St. George’s 28, Kirkop 26, Vittoriosa 25, Ghaxaq 13, Dingli 10 and Ta’ Xbiex 6. Apart from the promotion of Mgarr, Marsaskala and Gharghur are sure of playing in the Amateur League 1 while Ghaxaq, Dingli Swallows and Ta’ Xbiex will be playing in the Amateur League 2.

Meanwhile in Group A, Birzebbuga St. Peter’s remain second thanks to a 2-1 win over Rabat Ajax at the Sirens Stadium. The Saints opened the score in the first minute thanks to Samuel Saldanha and two minutes later, Saldanha doubled the score. Rabat Ajax reduced the gap on the 12th minute courtesy of Matthew Farrugia.

Qrendi defeated Mdina Knights 4-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Aud-Gustine James Obaje put Qrendi ahead on the 14th minute and doubled the score just before half-time. Larens Vella extended the lead nine minutes in the second half and Ross McParland added another nine minutes later. Owen Farrugia scored a consolation goal on the 76th.

Mellieha beat Siggiewi 2-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Matthias Vella put Mellieha ahead on the 11th and Alexander Akl doubled the score on the 24th. Kurt Agius reduced the gap on the 58th.

Xghajra Tornados claimed three important points thanks to a 2-1 win over Mqabba at the Sirens Stadium. An own goal on the 21st minute put Xghajra ahead and Bryan Alfredo Geonaga Cervantes doubled the score on the 34th. Dylan Zarb pulled one back ten minutes from time.

On the other hand, Sta. Venera Lightnings beat Kalkara United 2-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Thomas Grima put Kalkara ahead on the 68th and one minute later, Richmond Baratuipre Hanson equalised on the 69th and Matthias Vella notched the winner seven minutes from time.

Mtarfa lead the way with 51 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 43, Qrendi 38, Xghajra 34, Mellieha 33, Mqabba 31, Pembroke 30, Rabat 28, Sta. Venera 24, Kalkara 16, Siggiewi 14 and Mdina 1. Mtarfa have already secured promotion while Birzebbuga and Qrendi have already secured a place in the Amateur League 1 next season. On the other hand, Kalkara, Siggiewi and Mdina will be playing in the Amateur League 2.
