Gzira United joined Balzan in eighth place thanks to a 1-1 draw with Marsaxlokk at the National Stadium on Saturday.
The Maroons, therefore, earned a precious point in the battle against relegation as they lie four points ahead of Santa Lucia, six ahead of Mosta and nine ahead of Valletta but Santa Lucia and Mosta have a game in hand.
Marsaxlokk, on the other hand, now lie seven points behind third-placed Sliema Wanderers and two ahead of Hibernians with both Sliema and Hibs having a game in hand.
Gzira took the lead on the 33rd when they were awarded a penalty after Zach Scerri was floored inside the area by Jake Ghio and from the penalty spot, Gabriel Bohrer Mentz converted.
However thirteen minutes in the second half, Marsaxlokk levelled matters thanks to another penalty after Yuri de Jesus Messias was fouled by Marcelo Dias and the Brazilian made no mistake from the penalty spot.
