IZIBET Amateur League: Qrendi beat Pembroke in nine-goal thriller

Qrendi defeated Pembroke Athleta 5-4 in a match from the IZIBET Amateur League Group A at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

Miguel Ciantar put Qrendi ahead on the 22nd but Andrew Sant equalised on the 32nd. Brandon Bray converted a penalty on the 38th for Qrendi but Weverton Gomes levelled matters one minute from the end of the first half. Bray scored again on the 58th and Aud-Gustine James Obaje increased the lead on the 70th with Bray completing his hat-trick on the 74th. In added time, Mouied Algazali and Weverton Gomes scored for Pembroke to reduce the arrears.

Xgharja Tornados secured their Amateur League 1 status thanks to a 4-2 win over Santa Venera Lightnings at the Sirens Stadium. Francesco Gusman scored twice on the 23rd and 26th and Ryan Tabone increased the lead on the 41st. Kenneth Abela scored Xgharja’s fourth seven minutes in the second half with the Lightnings reducing the gap thanks to goals by Sean Ellul on the 73rd and Richmond Baratuipre Hanson four minutes from time.

Goals by Yuya Emura on the 14th and Aidan Paul Azzopardi on the 58th handed Rabat Ajax a 2-0 win over Mdina Knights at the Luxol Stadium while Siggiewi beat Kalkara United 4-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Shylon Vella put Siggiewi ahead on the 31st and although Aaron Hili equalised on the 36th, Miguel Busuttil restored the lead just before half-time. Andre Farrugia made it 3-1 on the 75th and Ian Darmanin sealed the issue with a fourth goal ten minutes from time.

Mtarfa lead the way with 52 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 46, Qrendi 41, Xghajra 37, Mellieha 34, Mqabba and Rabat 31, Pembroke 30, Sta. Venera 24, Siggiewi 17, Kalkara 16 and Mdina 1. Mtarfa have already secured promotion while Birzebbuga, Qrendi and Xghajra have already secured a place in the Amateur League 1 next season. On the other hand, Sta. Venera, Siggiewi, Kalkara and Mdina will be playing in the Amateur League 2.
