Early goals hand Floriana comfortable win

Floriana registered their first win in the 360Sports Malta Premier as they defeated Zabbar St. Patrick 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.

An own goal put the Greens after just five minutes and another two goals within the first twenty four minutes handed them a comfortable lead and from then onwards they controlled without particular difficulty.

Zabbar did create some fine goal scoring opportunities and were unlucky not to equalise just before conceding the second goal. However this third defeat in as many matches leaves them anchored at the bottom of the table.

Coach Joao Janeiro opted for two changes as Stefan Ilic and Marcelo Santos were preferred to Martim Ferreira and David Oliveira. Darren Abdilla, on the other hand, could not count on the suspended Mattia Veselji, handing Kyrian Nwoko a start.

Floriana had a perfect start, taking the lead on 5 minutes when off a cross from the left by Fernandinho, in an attempt to clear the ball into safety, defender Vinicius de Paiva hit the ball past goalkeeper Matthew Grech for an own goal.

Kyrian Nwoko doubled the score on 16 minutes when he pounced on a through pass by Dunstan Vella on the left and slotted the ball past Grech from close range.

Eight minutes later, off Alexandros Kouro’s long ball on the right, Franklin Sasere anticipated the Zabbar goalkeeper with a header with the ball ending at the back of the net.
