Gzira United rescue a point in 1-1 draw with Naxxar

A goal five minutes in added time enabled Gzira United to rescue a point in a 1-1 draw with Naxxar Lions in a match from the 360Sports Malta Premier Opening Round at the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Sunday.

A draw which puts the Maroons on level points with Hamrun in fifth place while Naxxar join Marsaxlokk on the six-point mark. The Lions could consider themselves unlucky not to claim the three points but the dismissal of Kemmu Degran Jackson made it more difficult in the final stages.

Naxxar forged ahead on 20 minutes when off a cross by Edson Farias from the right, Luan Sergio headed the ball home past goalkeeper Justin Haber.

Caxambu was unlucky to hit the upright with a fine shot from the left on 37 minutes for Naxxar.

Two minutes from time, Naxxar were reduced to ten men after Kemmu Degran Jackson received a second yellow card.

Five minutes in added time, Gzira equalised when off a Thiaguinho cross from the left, Christian Ebisindor Saint headed the ball home past goalkeeper Matthias Debono.
