Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Vittoriosa Stars registered wins on Sunday to regain the top spot in the IZIBET Amateur League 1.
At the Sirens Stadium, Birzebbuga defeated Pembroke Athleta 3-1. Samuel Saldanha put the Saints ahead on the 10th and Randall Vella doubled the score eight minutes later. Jayden Fenech reduced the gap on the 25th but Randall Vella added another on the 45th.
A brace by Godwin Emmanuel enabled Vittoriosa to turn defeat into victory, beating Qormi 2-1 in another match at the Sirens Stadium. Carlos Debattista put Qormi ahead on the 2nd minute but goals by Emmanuel on the 31st and 76th handed the Stars the three points.
Attard joined Luqa St. Andrew’s in third place thanks to a 4-0 win over Gharghur at the Charles Abela Stadium. David Azzopardi put Attard ahead on the 25th and Nigel Spiteri doubled the score two minutes from the end of the first half. Nicholas Schembri converted a penalty on the 71st and seven minutes later, Azzopardi added another.
Xghajra Tornados moved fifth thanks to a 3-0 win over Rabat Ajax at the Centenary Stadium thanks to a goal by Raylon Kaylon Paisley on the 31st and goals by Richmond Baratuipre Habnson on the 32nd and 52nd.
San Gwann came from behind to beat Zejtun Corinthians 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Clyde Bouvet opened the score for Zejtun on the 223rd but Ricardo Nahuel Velasquez equalised on the 38th and Nezar Fawzi Abouhaisa notched the winner two minutes from time.
Qrendi defeated Kirkop United 3-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Leo Fernandes put Qrendi ahead on the 38th. Ayesller Carvalho doubled the score on the 81st with David King Joachim and Sterling Moran Mina for Kirkop and Qrendi respectively scoring deep into stoppage time.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Msida St. Joseph held Mellieha in a 1-1 draw. Marc Bolane Adonis put Mellieha ahead on the 23rd but Hugo Vinicius da Silva equalised six minutes in the second half.
Birzebbuga and Vittoriosa lead the way with 16 points, followed by Luqa and Attard on 15, Xghajra 14, San Gwann 13, Qormi 12, Qrendi 9, Mellieha 8, Kirkop 6, Gharghur and Pembroke 3, Msida and Zejtun 2, Marsaskala 1 and Rabat 0.
