Early goal paves way for Sliema win over Hibernians

An early goal paved the way for Sliema Wanderers as they defeated Hibernians 3-1 in a match from the 360Sports Opening Round Top 6 at the National Stadium on Saturday.

The Blues stay one point behind second-placed Floriana, three behind leaders Birkirkara. Hibernians, on the other hand, stay in fourth place, followed by Hamrun Spartans.

Sliema took the lead after just three minutes when off an assist by Jonata from the right, Adam Magri Overend slotted the ball past goalkeeper Pablo Sanchez.

The Wanderers doubled the score on 35 minutes when off a Steve Pisani corner from the left,
Jean Borg headed the ball down for Gustavo Alcino to flick the ball past goalkeeper Sanchez.

Hibernians reduced the gap on the hour when off a Jurgen Degabriele cross from the left, Alex Bruno beat goalkeeper Emeka Kelvin Agu with a first-time effort.

However, three minutes later, Sliema made it 3-1 when Steven Pisani sent Mohamed Awad through and although the latter’s first attempt was blocked by the goalkeeper, he placed the ball at the back of the net off the rebound.
