BOV Challenge League: Valletta move six points clear

Leaders Valletta moved six points clear in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Mgarr United 2-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

Brandon Paiber put Valletta ahead on the 3rd minute and Zachary Cassar doubled the score on the 31st.

Pieta’ Hotspurs suffered a second consecutive defeat as they lost 0-3 to Sirens at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Gilberto Carrara put the St. Paul’s Bay side ahead thanks to a penalty on the 22nd and a brace by Thiago Nonato on the 55th and 59th.

Santa Lucia registered a third successive win, defeating Mtarfa 3-0 in another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium thanks to a Jean Carlos penalty on the 16th and a brace by Ibrahim Salis on the 30th and 70th.

On the other hand, St. Andrews claimed three important points in a 2-1 win over Tarxien Rainbows at the Centenary Stadium. Omar Elouni put St. Andrews ahead on the 15th. Conor Borg converted a penalty four minutes in the second half for Tarxien but four minutes in added time, William James England notched the winner for the Saints.

Valletta lead the way with 21 points, followed by Sirens, Pieta’ and Zurrieq on 15, Marsa 14, Tarxien 13, Mgarr 12, Swieqi 11, Gudja and Santa Lucia 10, St. Andrews 8, Zebbug 7, Fgura 6, Senglea 5, Lija 4 and Mtarfa 3.
