Balzan, Naxxar Lions take relegation play-out spots

Balzan came from behind to beat Naxxar Lions 2-1 at the National Stadium in one of the matches which brought to an end the 360Sports Malta Premier Opening Round Bottom 6 on Sunday.

A win which put Balzan on level points with Naxxar Lions, but considering a better record in the direct encounters, Balzan handed the wooden spoon to Naxxar. The two teams are now candidates for the relegation play-outs but in case they finish in the bottom two places in the Closing Round, they would be relegated automatically.

Ironically Naxxar, who could have avoided the bottom two places with a win, were a better side during the first half but Balzan improved in the second and turned the score in their favour.

The Lions took the lead on 17 minutes thanks to a powerful drive by Neil Pace Cocks which beat goalkeeper Dylan Ciappara.

However, five minutes in the second half, Balzan equalised courtesy of direct freekick by Victor Blasco from the left which saw the ball ending in the top left corner.

Balzan notched the winner on 61 minutes when Awosanya Oluwatobiloba Dimeji received a through ball on the right and beat goalkeeper Matthias Debono with a diagonal shot.
