BOV Challenge League: Marsa beat Zebbug to keep pace with Valletta

Marsa kept the pace with leaders Valletta in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Zebbug Rangers 4-2 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

Lydon Micallef put Marsa ahead on 16 minutes and although Duvan Mosquera equalised seven minutes later, Shaun Bugeja made it 2-1 for Marsa on 33 minutes. Daniel Zerafa extended the lead two minutes from the end of the first half. Lydon Micallef converted a penalty on 74 minutes with Duvan Mosquera reducing the gap eight minutes from time.

A brace by Dacosta Boadu on 51 and 54 minutes handed Tarxien Rainbows a 2-1 win over neighbours Santa Lucia at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Jean Carlos converted a penalty five minutes from time to score a consolation goal for Santa Lucia.

In another match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Fgura United defeated Zurrieq 3-0 thanks to an own goal on 29 minutes and a brace by Donys Quintero – a penalty on the 36th and a goal on the 62nd.

At the Centenary Stadium, Mtarfa defeated St. Andrews 1-0 thanks to a Darren Falzon penalty on 33 minutes.

Valletta lead the way with 29 points, followed by Marsa on 24, Swieqi and Tarxien 22, Mgarr 20, Santa Lucia and Pieta’ 19, Gudja 18, Sirens and Zurrieq 17, Zebbug 13, Fgura 12, Lija 11, St. Andrews 9, Mtarfa 7, and Senglea 6.
