Birzebbuga St. Peter’s joined San Gwann on top the IZIBET Amateur League 1 as they were held in a goalless draw by Mellieha at the Charles Abela Stadium on Saturday.
Attard maintained the challenge for a place in the Top 6 as they defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 2-0 at the Sirens Stadium thanks to goals by Nicholas Schembri on 3 minutes and Nick Ghio on 40 minutes.
Xghajra Tornados defeated Qormi 3-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. Dario Borg opened the score on 4 minutes and two minutes from the end of the first half, Richmond Baratuipre Hanson made it 2-0. David King Joachim pulled one back for Qormi on 72 minutes but nine minutes from time, Hanson made it 3-1.
In another match, Marsaskala defeated Msida St. Joseph 4-2 at the Sirens Stadium. Joshua Ojelabi put Marsaskala ahead on 21 minutes and although Mousstafa Robert Malool equalised two minutes later, James Oghenekewaro made it 2-1 for Marsaskala on 24 minutes. Malool levelled matters two minutes in the second half but goals by Oghenekewaro on 49 and Ojelabi on 79 minutes handed Marsaskala the three points.
San Gwann and Birzebbuga lead the way with 32 points, followed by Vittoriosa on 31, Attard, Luqa and Xghajra 27, Qrendi and Qormi 21, Zejtun 15, Kirkop 13, Mellieha 12, Marsaskala 9, Gharghur and Pembroke 7, Rabat 6 and Msida 3.
