Mgarr United, Santa Lucia and Zurrieq joined Lija Athletic, Marsa, Pieta’ Hotspurs and Tarxien Rainbows in the quarter-finals of the BOV Challenge Cup as another three matches from the Round of 16 were played on Thursday.
At the Centenary Stadium, Zurrieq came from behind to beat Swieqi United 3-2 at the Centenary Stadium. Sylvester Siaw put Swieqi ahead on 22 minutes but two minutes in the second half, Shawn Darmanin levelled matters. Juan Pablo Morales restored the lead thanks to a penalty on the hour but Precious Linus Tenebe restored equilibrium on 77 minutes and Eric Atkins notched the winner on the 90th.
In another match at the Centenary Stadium, a goal by Christian Ebisindor Saint on 12 minutes handed Mgarr United a 1-0 win over Mtarfa.
On the other hand, at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Santa Lucia defeated Zebbug Rangers 4-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the end of the ninety minutes and a 2-2 draw after extra-time. Luca Gatt put Zebbug ahead on 67 minutes but Adam Bradshaw equalised three minutes from time to force extra-time. Santa Lucia took just two minutes to take the lead thanks to another goal by Bradshaw but two minutes in the second half of extra-time, Duvan Mosquera made it 2-2. The penalty shoot-out therefore had to determine the winner. Adam Bradshaw, Jamie Sixsmith, Jean Carlos and Temitope Abraham Ojo scored for Santa Lucia while Johann Bezzina scored for Zebbug with Gaetano Gesualdi and Duvan Mosquera both failing to score.
