Swieqi United dropped important points in the battle for promotion as they lost 1-2 to Mgarr United in a match from BOV Challenge League Top 8 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
Ebisindor Christian Saint put Mgarr ahead on 26 minutes and Luka Mijic doubled the score eleven minutes later. Sylvester Siaw pulled one back on 67 minutes.
In another match from the Top 8 at the Centenary Stadium, champions Valletta defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 2-1 thanks to goals by Andrei Ciolacu on 14 minutes and Zak Barbara on 23 minutes with Kian Leonardi reducing the gap on 83 minutes.












Champions Valletta lead the way with 53 points, followed by Swieqi and Tarxien on 35, Pieta’ and Santa Lucia 31, Mgarr 30, Marsa 29 and Zurrieq 28.
In the Play-Out, St. Andrews, Sirens and Zebbug Rangers are now sure of retaining their Challenge League status after St. Andrews and Zebbug emerged as winners.
At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, a goal by Mattia Galliano four minutes in the second half handed St. Andrews a narrow win over Mtarfa while in another match, Zebbug defeated Senglea 2-1 thanks to goals by Leo Agius on 16 minutes and Duvan Mosquera on 72 minutes after Douglas had equalised on 29 minutes.
In the Play-Out, Fgura lead the way with 33 points, followed by Gudja on 26, St. Andrews 25, Sirens 24, Zebbug 21, Lija 15, Mtarfa 14 and Senglea 13.
