Hamrun Spartans secured a spot in the Top 6 finish as they registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Naxxar Lions in a match the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round at the Gozo Stadium on Monday.
A result which puts the Spartans on level points with Hibernians, two behind the four joint-leaders – Birkirkara, Floriana, Marsaxlokk and Mosta – and one behind Sliema. However with the Spartans enjoying a better record in the direct encounter, they would be playing in the Top 6 while the Paolites have to settle for a place in the Bottom 6.
On the other hand, Naxxar Lions have to settle for the bottom spot which they share with Balzan and Melita.
The Spartans took the lead on 9 minutes when a Roko Prsa corner from the right created havoc inside the area as the ball was not held by goalkeeper Andre Fenech and in an attempt to clear the ball into safety, Neil Pace Cocks deflected the ball past Fenech for an own goal.
Hamrun doubled the score on 23 minutes thanks to goalkeeper Henry Bonello whose clearance from the edge of the area saw the ball bounce in front of and then over the Naxxar goalkeeper to end at the back of the net.
Three minutes later, Roko Prsa beat Fenech, direct from a corner from the right to make it 3-0.
Hamrun increased the lead on 72 minutes when an erratic backpass by Maicon turned to be a perfect pass for Raphael Lopes to advance into the area before slotting the ball past goalkeeper Fenech.
