IZIBET Amateur League 1: Birzebbuga, Vittoriosa stay top

Birzebbuga St. Peter’s and Vittoriosa Stars maintained a one-point lead over third-placed San Gwann in the IZIBET Amateur League 1 Top 6 as the three teams registered wins on Sunday.

A goal by Paul Odunayo Aderibigbe two minutes from time handed Vittoriosa a narrow win over Xghajra Tornados at the Centenary Stadium while Birzebbuga beat Attard 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium as Yusuf Abdullahi Sulaiman put them ahead on 56 minutes and five minutes later, Leejoe Schembri doubled the score with Sebastian Perdomo Esquivel converting a penalty for Attard two minutes in added time.

On the other hand, a goal by Mattia Zarb handed San Gwann a narrow win over Luqa St. Andrew’s at the Centenary Stadium.

Vittoriosa and Birzebbuga lead the way with 43 points, followed by San Gwann on 42, Xghajra 35, Luqa 34 and Attard 29.

Meanwhile in the Play-Out, Pembroke Athleta claimed three precious points in a 4-1 win over Marsaskala at the Sirens Stadium. Jayden Fenech put Pembroke ahead on 45 minutes and although Marsaskala equalised three minutes in added time thanks to Kieran Grech, Robert Ciantar restored the lead on 62 minutes. Roderick Taliana and Jordan Vella sealed the issue with goals on 87 and 92 minutes.

Qormi lead the way in the Play-Out with 35 points, followed by Qrendi on 33, Mellieha 29, Zejtun 28, Kirkop 24, Marsaskala and Pembroke 19, Gharghur 16, Rabat 8 and Msida 5
