A brace by Simon Zibo enabled Sliema Wanderers to beat leaders Birkirkara 2-1 in a match the 360Sports Malta Premier Closing Round at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday to secure a Top 6 finish.
Only a win would have ensured their status and thanks to this win, they managed to reach their objective to join Birkirkara, Floriana and Mosta in the Top 6 with Marsaxlokk, Hibernians and Hamrun Spartans still fighting for the remaining two spots.
The Stripes, on the other hand, will enter the Top 6 sharing the top spot with Floriana and Mosta after the latter two emerged as winners on Saturday.
Sliema managed to take the lead on 22 minutes when Simon Zibo exchanged the ball with Steve Pisani beating goalkeeper Matthew Grech with a fine shot from outside the area.
Birkirkara equalised on 61 minutes courtesy of Paul Mbong who concluded a fine solo effort in which he rounded a number of players with a curling shot which gave goalkeeper Emeka Kelvin Agu no chance.
However on 72 minutes, the Wanderers regained the lead when off an assist by Steve Pisani, Simon Zibo’s rising shot from the left ended in the top left corner behind Grech.
