Opening Round winners Floriana face Closing Round runners-up Hamrun Spartans in the second semi-final of the 360Sports Malta Premier Final Four at the National Stadium on Monday, kick-off at 19:15.
The Greens finished the Opening Round League Phase in second place, five points behind leaders Birkirkara but with four wins out of five matches, they ended the Top 6 on top, three ahead of the Stripes. Hamrun Spartans, on the other hand, just made it to the Top 6 after beating Gzira United on the final match day of the league phase, finishing fifth in the Top 6, eleven points behind the Greens.
On the other hand, in the Closing Round, Floriana were one of four joint-leaders in the League Phase along with Birkirkara, Marsaxlokk and Mosta with Hamrun just making it to the Top 6 thanks a win in a clash with Naxxar Lions, although they ended just two points behind the four joint-leaders. However, in the Top 6, the Greens earned just two wins and two draws, losing one game while Hamrun won three and drew two to end as joint-leaders with Sliema Wanderers, placing second due to the inferior record in the direct encounters. Floriana, on the other hand, had to settle for third place, one behind the two leaders following a draw with Birkirkara in the final match.
The two teams met four times this season. The two teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the Opening Round League Phase and Hamrun defeated Floriana 2-1 in the Top 6 clash. In the Closing Round, the two clashes between Floriana and Hamrun ended in goalless draws.
Matias Garcia and Gabriel Sotomayor are ruled out for Floriana as they serve a one-match ban. For the same reason, Elionay will be unavailable for for Hamrun.
If at the end of the ninety minutes, the score is still draw, extra-time will be necessary and if the result remains draw, penalties would determine the winner.
The winner faces Birkirkara in the Championship final on Saturday while the loser will take on Sliema Wanderers in a decisive clash for a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League.
