Following a proposal by the Women’s Football Department to the Competitions Committee of the Malta FA, the Women’s U21 Youth League will be replacing the existing U19 Youth League.
The league will be played in two phases. In the first phase, the league will be played by all clubs on a double round robin basis while at the end of the first phase, the top four teams will be playing in the Top 4 and the remaining teams would play in the Play-Out Round. Both the Top 4 and the Play-Out will be played on a double round robin basis.
Players taking part in this competition shall be at least sixteen by the end of the calendar year when the match is played and under twenty years of age before the first day of January prior to commencement of the season. Players who are eligible to participate in both the women’s senior competition and the Under-21 competition shall not exceed a cumulative total of 135 minutes of regular playing time across two consecutive matches in the two categories.
