Street Football in the City returns with action-packed Father’s Day morning in Zabbar

The Malta FA’s Street Football in the City marked its return on Sunday with a thrilling and fun-filled morning, this time in Zabbar.

Street Football in the City is one of a number of events taking place during the year to celebrate the Malta FA’s 125th anniversary. Last May, the event took place at the Mellieha Parish Square, and was a massive success, with plenty of children from different nurseries taking part.

On Sunday, the event was held at Alessio Erardi Street in Zabbar, in front of the Holy Cross Church. Coinciding with Father’s Day, it was the perfect morning for so many families, allowing them to get their day off to a brilliant start.

The event was held in collaboration with the Youth FA and the Zabbar Local Council. It was supported by the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness, the Water Services Corporation, Circular Economy Malta and the Climate Action Authority.

The children had a morning filled with football, as a series of small-sided games were played. There were four pitches set up, including two for three-a-side matches, one for a penalty shootout, and another for walking football.

A water buggy provided by the Water Services Corporation was present to keep the children hydrated.

Children from the Zabbar Scout Group participated, as well as children from the Zabbar St Patrick FC, Fgura United, Xghajra Tornados FC and Tarxien Rainbows FC nurseries.

Malta FA Vice President Adrian Casha, together with Parliamentary Secretary for Public Cleanliness Dr Glenn Beddingfield, Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Dr Miriam Dalli, and Zabbar Mayor Jorge Grech were in attendance.

Women’s Footballer of the Year Shona Zammit, together with Women’s National Team players Haley Bugeja and Yulya Carella were present to play with the children, providing their expertise to young fans while also signing autographs and taking photos.

Former striker Ndubisi Chukunyere, as well as his son and current Under-21 National Team player Isaiah Chukunyere also attended, together with former goalkeeper Alex Camilleri and current Under-21 National Team goalkeeper Luca Camilleri. Under-21 National Team captain Jake Micallef was also present, together with Under-19 National Team player Liam Micallef. Former Zabbar St Patrick FC captain Dion Fava also took the time to visit the event.

The fun-filled day, together with the opportunity to play and meet so many local football stars made the morning truly one to remember for so many young fans!

The Malta FA would like to thank all of the organisations, authorities, and football nurseries for their assistance in making this event a success.
