Sliema Wanderers part ways with coach Paul Zammit

Sliema Wanderers FC announced that following discussions the Club and Senior Team Head Coach Paul Zammit have mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect.

In a statement, the club said that this decision was not taken lightly but after careful consideration, both parties concluded that this step was in the best interests of the Club as it continues to focus on its sporting objectives and long-term vision.

The club expressed its sincere appreciation to Paul Zammit for his commitment, professionalism, and the work carried out during his time with the Club and thanked him for his efforts and dedication while wishing him every success in his future professional endeavours.

After winning the Challenge League title with the Blues in 2022/23, the following season they managed to secure a spot in the UEFA Europa Conference League on their return to the Premier League. Last season, they missed out on European football while this season, they are currently joint-fourth in the YoHealth Malta Premier Top 6 on 25 points together with Valletta, seven behind leaders Floriana and three behind Hamrun Spartans. They reached the final of the Malta FA Jubilee Cup but suffered a shock exit from the Meridianbet FA Trophy at the hands of Swieqi United.

Paul Zammit had started his coaching career with Mosta but left the club in October 2005 to join Valletta. In summer 2009, he joined Birkirkara on a two year deal. At the end of his contract, he was not retained but only a few months later, in October 2011, he was re-appointed to the post. Zammit moved to Valletta in 2015, spending two years with the Citizens before re-joining Birkirkara in 2017. However in January 2019, he was forced out by the appointment of John Arne Riise as technical director. Zammit joined Gzira United in January 2020 but stepped down at the end of the season. He spent a few months with Balzan between October 2021 and April 2022, before joining Sliema Wanderers in summer 2022.
