Stoppage-time goals hand Floriana Closing Round title

Floriana won the YoHealth Malta Premier Closing Round after they scored twice in added time to beat rivals Valletta 2-0 at the National Sadium on Saturday.

The Greens move twelve points clear of Hamrun Spartans and Marsaxlokk who currently share second place and now the Malta Premier title will be determined by a decider between the Greens and the Spartans, in case Hamrun finish second, after they won the Opening Round, or a Final Four in case another team finishes second.

The two teams had their fair share of scoring opportunities but the score remained goalless until three minutes in added time when Floriana managed to take the lead. Fede Varela delivered a cross from the right and following a short clearance by a defender, Charles M’Mombwa hit home past goalkeeper Adilson Maringa.

Ten minutes in added time, the Greens doubled the score when substitute Mustapha Jah concluded a good run on the left flank with a low shot which was partially saved by the Valletta goalkeeper and another substitute, Kenan Dervisagic placed the ball at the back of the net.
