Valletta secure spot in UEFA Youth League after winning Youth League Section A

Valletta will be the first team to represent Malta in the UEFA Youth League after they defeated Mosta 1-0 in the final game from the Youth League Section A at the Centenary Stadium on Monday.

A win which saw the team led by Matthew Psaila finish top in Section A, five points clear of runners-up Mosta.

David Emmanuel Garba scored the all-important goal nine minutes in the second half.

This will be the first time Malta will be represented in the competition after the UEFA Executive Committee approved a new format for the UEFA Youth League as from 2024/25 thanks to which domestic youth champions of all UEFA member associations will be participating in the competition.

The competition will adapt to the format change of the senior UEFA club competitions and include the 36 youth teams of the clubs which qualify for the league phase of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League (Champions League path). The Domestic Champions path will be restructured to include the domestic youth champions of all UEFA member associations (currently participation is limited to the top 32 associations of the ranking list).

Valletta will enter the first round of the domestic champions path which will be played in September.

The competition is open to players born on or after January 1 2006.
