BOV Division 2: Mgarr United move top

Mgarr United are the new leaders of the BOV Second Division as they defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 1-0 in a top-of-the-table clash at the Sirens Stadium on Sunday. A win which enabled them to leapfrog the Saints.

Jamie Lee Micallef scored the all-important goal on the 11th minute.

Fgura United kept the pace with Mgarr thanks to a 2-1 win over Kalkara in another match at the Sirens Stadium. Phil Taylor put Fgura ahead on the 41st minute and Gilbert Martin doubled the score on the 72nd with Lincoln Micallef reducing the gap five minutes from time.

Marsaxlokk and Rabat Ajax, on the other hand, were both held in goalless draw. At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, St. George’s held Marsaxlokk while at the Luxol Stadium, Rabat Ajax were held by Sta. Venera Lightnings.

Melita joined them in fourth place thanks to a 3-1 win over Siggiewi at the Luxol Stadium. Luke Mifsud opened the score on the 6th minute but the Amateurs had to wait until the 75th minute to double the score with a goal by Liam Grech on the 75th. Marko Nikolic pulled one back for Siggiewi but Alan Borg Olivier sealed the issue in added time with a third goal.

In another match, Luqa St. Andrew’s held Mellieha in a 1-1 draw at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Alan Abdel Rahman gave Luqa the lead on the 33rd minute but a David Fenech penalty on the 90th restored equilibrium.

Mgarr lead the way with 22 points, followed by Birzebbuga on 20, Fgura 19, Rabat, Melita and Marsaxlokk 17, St. George’s 15, Sta. Venera 8, Zabbar, Siggiewi and Mellieha 7, Kalkara 6 and Luqa 5.
