BOV Division 2: Marsaskala, San Gwann share spoils in six-goal thriller

mskala-sangwann131005Marsaskala and San Gwann earned a point each as they shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller which saw the Saints going three goals ahead and Marsaskala staging a great comeback with three late goals.

Following a goalless first half, a brace by Peter Xuereb on 49 and 50 minutes and a goal by Roderick Briffa on 51 minutes put San Gwann 3-0 ahead. Ryan Cauchi pulled one back on 82 minutes and two minutes later, Nicola Del Re scored a second goal. Toraino Singleton notched the equaliser four minutes from time.

An own goal paved the way for Zabbar St. Patrick to beat Siggiewi 3-0 and take sole leadership.

In fact, a own goal after just one minute put Zabbar ahead. Samuel Buhagiar doubled the score on the 63rd and Thomas Caruana made it 3-0 one minute from time.

Kirkop United beat Dingli Swallows 2-0. Matthew Caruana put them ahead on 24 minutes and Shawn Micallef doubled the score three minutes later.

Senglea Athletic and Marsa shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Basil Chibueze put Marsa ahead on the 69th minute but Simon Aquilina rescued a point for Senglea by converting a stoppage-time penalty.

The clash between Fgura United and Gharghur also ended in a 1-1 draw. Philip Chircop put Fgura ahead on the 18th minute but Brian Galea equalised four minutes later.

In another match, Mellieha and Pembroke earned a point each in a goalless draw.

Zabbar St. Patrick lead the way with 10 points, followed by San Gwann, Gharghur and Pembroke on 8, Fgura, Kirkop, Mqabba 6, Marsa 5, Mellieha, Siggiewi, Mdina and Senglea 4, Marsaskala 2 and Dingli 0.
