Women's national team hosts Denmark

women-malta-luxembourg130406The women’s national team hosts Denmark in the first home match from Group 3 of the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday, kick-off at 14:00.

Malta reached the qualifying round after winning the Preliminary Round mini-tournament thanks to wins over Luxembourg and Latvia and a draw with Albania earlier this year. The team’s commitments in Group 3 started off with a 2-0 defeat to Israel at the Itztadion Ramat Gan in Israel last month.

Sunday’s game will be no easy task for Pierre Brincat’s side considering that Denmark are one of the giants in the women’s game, being ranked twelfth in the world and sixth in Europe.

So far they played one game in the group, being held in a 1-1 draw by Serbia away from home. Switzerland lead the way in the group with maximum points from three matches.

Malta’s objective will be to give their opponents a hard time. Brincat could not field his best formation due to the absence of Sharon Costantino and Kirsty Feasey who are both injured.
