Obinna Ajoku brace hands Rainbows three precious points

Tarxien Rainbows claimed another three important points in the battle against relegation as they registered a second consecutive, defeating Mosta 2-1 to move fourth from bottom on seventeen points. They are now two points ahead of Qormi and five ahead of Pietà and Zebbug.

For Mosta, this was the fifth defeat in seven matches but they still lie in a rather comfortable mid-table position on twenty points.

The Rainbows lacked Carlos Menendez Hevia, Jorge Yepes Roda and Mouhamed Soly. Mosta, on the other hand, were in full strength.

Tarxien went close to taking the lead on the 15th minute through Obinna Ajoku Darlington following a corner by Firas Aboulezz.

On the half-hour, the Rainbows doubled the score when off an Edu Vallecillo cross from the right, Obinna Ajoku Darlington’s header hit the upright before ending at the back of the net.

Mosta pulled one back two minutes in added time when off a corner from the left by Darbo, Haruna Babangida slammed the ball past goalkeeper Sean Mintoff.

Triston Caruana was unlucky to hit the upright with a shot from outside the area four minutes in the second half.
