Aleksa Andrejic hat-trick hands Tarxien first win

Tarxien Rainbows registered their first win in the BOV Premier League as they defeated Hamrun Spartans 3-2 at the Hibernians Stadium on Saturday.

For the Spartans, this was yet another disappointing result as they have now gone nine matches without a win.

Hamrun forged ahead on the 7th minute when off a cross by Ailton Jorge dos Santos Soares, served by Nikolai Micallef, Andre Scicluna hit home.

The Spartans could have doubled the score on the 20th when they were awarded a penalty after a defender handled the ball inside the area by Ailton Jorge Soares’ effort was neutralised by Rudy Briffa.

Eight minutes from the end of the first half, Tarxien levelled matters through Aleksa Andrejic who concluded a solo effort with a diagonal shot which beat goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo.

Three minutes in the second half, Tarxien made it 2-1 with a powerful drive by Aleksa Andrejic which beat the Hamrun custodian.

Nicola Leone restored equilibrium with a fine volley on the 74th minute when served by Matthew Gauci.

However two minutes later, Aleksa Andrejic restored the lead for Tarxien with another fine shot from the edge of the area which ended at the back of the net.
