Floriana, Valletta seek wins in bid to close in on leaders Hibernians

Floriana and Valletta will be aiming for the three points on Saturday as they take on Sirens and Mosta respectively in two of the BOV Premier League matches in programme at the Tony Bezzina Stadium. Birkirkara and Sliema Wanderers cross swords in the other match at the National Stadium.

In the first match at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 14:00, Floriana take on Sirens.

Three wins and a draw from their last four matches propelled the Greens to second place, five points behind leaders Hibernians. Another win on Saturday would enable them to move closer to the Paolites. Last week, they defeated Gudja 1-0. Sirens, on the other hand, are currently seventh on 11 points, five behind the Greens. They lost three out of the last four matches, losing 1-6 to Balzan during the weekend.

At the National Stadium, kick-off at 16:00, Birkirkara face Sliema Wanderers.

The Stripes earned just one point from the last three matches following a 2-3 defeat to Sirens, a 1-1 draw with Hibernians and a 0-2 defeat to Santa Lucia. Lying in joint fourth-place with Balzan, they eye the three points on Saturday against a team who is still chasing their first win as the 2-1 win over Valletta last weekend was cancelled after a protest over the ineligibility of Warsama Hassan was upheld. The Wanderers lie at the bottom of the table with just four points from nine matches and therefore need precious points from this clash.

Birkirkara will be without the suspended Enrico Pepe and Oscar Carniello

At the Tony Bezzina Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, Valletta meet Mosta.

Buoyed by the awarding of the three points by the MFA Protests Board after their protest against the result of the match against Sliema was upheld, Valletta seek the three points as they hope to close in on Hibernians. However Mosta, who are currently joint eighth with Gzira United, need precious points in their bid to stay clear of the bottom places. They are unbeaten in five matches following wins over Balzan and Sliema and draws with Santa Lucia, Floriana and Gzira.

The Blues could not count on the suspended Tyrone Farrugia and Jonas Rodriguez Ekani.
