Aidan Friggieri brace paves the way for Gudja in fine win over Santa Lucia

Aidan Friggieri scored twice as Gudja United registered a fine win over Santa Lucia in a direct clash between two teams who were sharing the second place from bottom at the Centenary Stadium on Wednesday.

This win enables Gudja to move three points clear of Santa Lucia and Mosta and now lie in the ninth place, five points behind Balzan and Sirens. For Santa Lucia, this was a highly disappointing result as they have now gone five matches without a win.

Both sides paraded some of their new signings. Making their first appearance for Gudja were Matias Muchardi and Ahinga Selemani apart from Juan Bolanos who re-joined the club. Two other new signings Tatsuro Nagamatsu and Nika Dzalamidze were included as substitutes. On the other hand, Santa Lucia had Justin Haber and Meghon Valpoort making their debut.

Gudja took the lead one minute from the end of the first half when Matias Muchardi served Aidan Friggieri inside the area and the latter hit low past Haber.

Seven minutes in the seocnd half, Gudja doubled the score when Gabriel Mensah served Ahinga Selemani who found the unmarked Aidan Friggieri on the left and the latter beat Haber with a diagonal shot.

Four minutes later, Gudja scored the third goal thanks to Tensior Gusman who headed the ball home off a cross by Llywelyn Cremona.
