Her Excellency Myriam Spiteri Debono, President of Malta, paid a visit to the Malta Football Association’s Headquarters on Wednesday, meeting with the Association’s top officials, associates and also various National Team selections.
The event marked one of the key dates in the Association’s 125th anniversary celebrations calendar, with 2025 proving to be a celebrative year for the Malta FA.
Following her arrival, H.E. Myriam Spiteri Debono took part in a meeting with the Association’s top officials to discuss a number of key initiatives and events that the Malta FA has in store for the year.

The President of Malta then met with the administrative employees of the Malta FA, before being given a tour of the Malta Football Museum, getting a deeper look at Malta’s rich football history.
Afterwards, the Malta Women’s National Team, together with staff from the Technical Centre had the opportunity to meet H.E. Spiteri Debono. This was followed by a meeting with the Malta Boys Under-17 National Team ahead of their 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying campaign.


Speaking during the visit, Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo remarked that it is an honour to be welcoming the President of Malta to the Ta’ Qali Football Complex for the first time.
“Today’s visit continues to enrich what has always been intrinsically in the Malta FA’s history, that of unity between people and the mission to continue working with the community through football,” he added.
He highlighted how the Association has become recognised both locally and internationally as an organisation that is diligent, inclusive, and that has good values, while in terms of sport, the Malta FA has always provided everyone with opportunities, irrespective of one’s respective background.
“That is what defines us and makes us proud of the 125 years of history that we are celebrating all together,” President Vassallo continued.
President Myriam Spiteri Debono highlighted the Malta Football Association’s commitment to sport, education and the preservation of footballing history in Malta during the Association’s 125-year anniversary celebrations. “The Association’s mission to promote inclusivity and unity should serve as an example to other sport associations.” Her Excellency also lauded the Association’s investment in sporting and educational programs in schools and the local communities.
While addressing the MFA’s officials, the President reminded them that their work forms an integral part in promoting Malta and its values. President Myriam Spiteri Debono also addressed the Malta Women’s National Team, and the Malta Boys Under-17 National Team, praised them for the positive results and described them as Malta’s ambassadors, both locally and on the international level.
