Birkirkara beat Floriana to reach Meridianbet FA Trophy final

Birkirkara are the first finalists of the Meridianbet FA Trophy after defeating Floriana 2-1 in the first semi-final at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

The Stripes, who had defeated Balzan 2-1, Fgura United 3-0 and Valletta 3-1 after extra-time in the previous rounds, managed to take a two-goal lead with Floriana reducing the gap late in the game.

While Birkirkara remain on track to try to win the FA Trophy, the Greens failed to lift any silverware this season.

Birkirkara managed to take the lead on 25 minutes when off a cross by Leandro Lacunza from the right, Maxuell Samurai served Pablo Gaitan who slammed the ball home past goalkeeper Mafoumbi.

The Stripes doubled the score on 67 minutes courtesy of Maxuell Samurai when he took advantage of a short clearance by Mafoumbi following an erratic back pass by Garcia, lobbing the ball over the goalkeeper from outside the area.

Ten minutes from time, Floriana pulled one back thanks to Alexandros Kouros who hit home following a corner from the left, deflected by Elvis Mashike.
