Naxxar Lions secure Premier League status as Valletta are relegated to Challenge League

Naxxar Lions will be playing once again in the Premier League as they registered an impressive 4-0 win over Valletta at the National Stadium on Sunday.

This result, coupled with the draw between Balzan and Mosta, means that Valletta have been condemned to playing in the Challenge League next season.

Naxxar had a perfect start taking the lead on the 3rd minute with a great shot from outside the area by Takuma Yamaguchi which gave goalkeeper Alessandro Guanine no chance.

Pablo Augusto Servo de Carvalho doubled the score on the 32nd minute when he controlled a cross from the right and beat Guarnone.

Robinson Blandon Rendon made it 3-0 four minutes from the end of the first half, hitting home from close range off a Neil Pace Cocks corner from the left.

Naxxar scored the fourth goal on the 65th when Goncalo Braganca de Oliveira Vieira lost the ball to Pablo Augusto de Carvalho who advanced on the right before serving Robinson Blandon Rendon who hit home past Guanone.

  1. I hope this will serve as a wake up call for my favourite club. A club with such a glorious tradition should not depend solely on rich sponsors to achieve success, which was, unfortunately, the case for several years. With so little consistency and the lack development within the club, you’re left in a vulnerable position. It seems Sliema learned their lesson and are on a much more solid footing after their trip to second level. Fingers crossed Valletta will also get back.
