Premier Division side Tarxien Rainbows reached the Final of the ‘Gammari’ Muscat’ Mosta Tournament after beating Lija Athletic 3-1. Cristiano Dos Santos Rodrigues was again the hero with two goals, but the man behind the win was Gianluca Calabretta whose two assists for Dos Santos Rodrigues was complimented with the Rainbow’s second goal.
Dos Santos Rodrigues had given Tarxien the lead after 13 minutes, but Lija drew on 28 minutes through Beppe Antignolo. Calabretta restored the lead four minutes later and then served Dos Santos Rodrigues for Tarxien’s third with fifteen minutes to go. Lija gave a very good account of themselves and were never inferior to their more quoted opponents. But as with any Premier Division teams, Tarxien were lethal when they needed to.
In the other semi-final Pieta Hotspurs ended Zurrieq’s dream tournament with a deserved 3-0 win. Ndayi Kalenga, formerly of Mosta, scored the first two Hotspurs goals and the very promising Zach Muscat, on as a substitute, notched the third.
The tournament comes to an end on Wednesday when Tarxien Rainbows meet Pieta Hotspurs in the Final that starts at 20.30 hrs. The 3rd & 4th Place match will be played on the same day at 18.00 hrs between Zurrieq and Lija Athletics.
