Hamrun Spartans moved a step closer to promotion thanks to a narrow win over St. George’s in one of the two matches from the BOV First Division at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.
Haruna Garba scored the all-important goal for Steve D’Amato’s side on the 19th minute.
In another match, Melita collected three precious points in the battle against relegation as they defeated Fgura United 3-1. A win which puts Melita on level points with Zebbug Rangers, seven points ahead of St. George’s and eight ahead of San Gwann.
Alan Borg Olivier, Francois Guihard and Luke Mifsud scored the three goals for Melita with Quincy Bregman replying for Fgura.
Gzira and Hamrun lead the way with 50 points, followed by Senglea on 38, Pietà 34, Lija 30, Mqabba 29, Vittoriosa, Rabat and Fgura 26, Zebbug and Melita 25, St. George’s 18, San Gwann 17 and Gudja 8.
