Kercem Ajax midfielder Elton Vella is the BOV GFA Player of the Month for January 2016 while Ghajnsielem player-coach Shaun Bajada won the award for February.
Elton Vella was a protagonist in Kercem’s 3-1 win over Victoria Hotspurs where he scored twice and also found the net in Kercem’s 3-3 draw with Xewkija Tigers. Thirty-two year old Vella started his career with Kercem but has played with various teams in Malta and Gozo and had won the MFA First Division Best Player award during his stint with Mosta.
Shaun Bajada moved into his coaching role with Ghajnsielem at the beginning of the season. Ghajnsielem, who were promoted from Division 2 at the end of last season, are still unbeaten and firm favorites to be crowned Champions at the end of the season. Bajada scored one of the fastest goals of the season against St Lawrence Spurs after only 18 seconds. His role as a leader and his extensive experience that includes a regular spot in the Malta National Team were definitely felt in Ghajnsielem’s victories over Oratory Youths and Kercem Ajax.
