Valletta unveiled a new sponsor – Von Der Heyden Group – during a press conference at the club premises in Valletta.
The Von der Heyden Group, which specializes in sustainable investments in office buildings, hotels and residential building projects, the renovation and reconstruction of historical buildings, such as old city houses and turn them into first-class apartment complexes, is currently pursuing advanced negotiations regarding the operation of a boutique hotel in the capital city of Valletta and a high profile office development on the island taking advantage of the very positive local business environment.
Addressing the media, Valletta FC president Victor Sciriha said such a sponsor will help the club increase its budget, which so far amounts to around one million euro, to strengthen the squad and build a more competitive side in Europe. This summer, the Citizens eliminated B36 Torshavn but was eliminated by Red Star Belgrade following two 1-2 defeats.
Following defeats to Floriana and Hibernians, Valletta started to lose ground but after beating Hamrun last week, they moved third, three points behind leaders Balzan and two behind Hibernians. The Citizens will be all out to win the three competitions at stake – the BOV Premier League, the FA Trophy and the BOV Super Cup which is scheduled for December 21.
Meanwhile Sciriha revealed Valletta FC are in favour of removing all restrictions on foreign players in the Premier League from the current seven foreign players on the field of play. Vice-president Alex Fenech revealed that the matter is being discussed by the Premier Division Standing Committee and there seems to be a consensus among the clubs on this issue.
