Hamrun Spartans FC Youth Nursery organised a half-day technical seminar for nursery coaches at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday 5 December.
One of the main aims of this seminar was to harmonise training programmes in all categories as football development is a continuous process and should progress from one year to the next.
The speakers of the seminar were introduced to staff by nursery secretary Mr Mario De Battista. The first presentation was prepared by Mr Pippo Psaila, former National Team Coach, who explained the various stages of youth football development and characteristics found at each stage. He explained the importance of preparing training which is tailored according to the age category that one is coaching. He also emphasised that demonstration and correction are both fundamental elements of training.
This speech was followed by a presentation by Ms Adele Muscat, sports psychologist, who elaborated on the human aspect of coaching and the importance of positivity in training and during matches.
A technical brief was then carried out by Mr Ronnie Attard, nursery technical director and former coach with vast experience at youth level, including the Malta National Youth Teams.
The seminar was concluded with a practical presentation on the pitch led by Mr Stefan Sultana and Mr Marco Grech, head coaches of the nursery. A number of training drills were presented to coaches on the artificial turf of the Victor Tedesco Stadium in order to promote innovative and interesting training by all coaching staff.
The event turned out to be a success with good participation from all coaches who expressed satisfaction at the way the event was organised. The event will surely be followed by similar events in future.
