Reuben Gauci joins Birkirkara

Following the departure of goalkeeper Jorge Mora, Birkirkara secured the services of Marsaxlokk goalkeeper Reuben Gauci on loan till the end of the season.

A product of Floriana, he made his Premier League debut with the Greens in season 2002/03. He moved to Marsaxlokk in summer 2005. Gauci was then loaned to Qormi and St. Andrews but was back with the Southseasiders for season 2010/11. This year, he played eight of the fifteen Premier League matches for Marsaxlokk.

The other goalkeepers on the books of Birkirkara are Serbian goalie Aleksandar Canovic and Karl Magri.

Meanwhile Gauci could be the first of two Marsaxlokk players to join the Stripes as the latter are interested in signing captain Carlo Mamo.

Mamo had already played for the Stripes in season 1999/2000 and 2009/10. Ironically on both occasions, he won the championship with Birkirkara. He started his career with Tarxien Rainbows and after joining Sliema Wanderers in 2000/01, he moved to Marsaxlokk in summer 2004.

Over the past weeks, Marsaxlokk have lost Carlos Campagnoli, Florent Raimy, Obinna Obiefule, Martin Deanov, Emiliano Lattes and Malcolm Licari.

Raimy, Obiefule and possibly Lattes will be playing for Mosta, Deanov should join Balzan Youths while Licari joined Floriana.
