After suffering five consecutive defeats, Msida St. Joseph ended their disappointing run as they returned to winning ways, beating Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 1-0 in a clash between the two teams which were lying in the bottom two places in the BOV First Division.
Stacey Vella scored the all-important goal for Msida one minute from the end of the first half to put them on the nine-point mark together with Fgura, Zurrieq and St. George’s.
Meanwhile Vittoriosa Stars bounced back from the defeat to Zurrieq as a brace by Anthony Eviparker gave them a 2-0 win over Lija Athletic. A win which puts them on level points with Gudja United in second place.
Eviparker put the Stars ahead on 32 minutes and doubled the score thanks to a penalty six minutes from time.
Melita lead the way with 15 points, followed by Gudja and Vittoriosa on 14, St. Andrews 13, Lija and Mqabba 12, Pembroke 11, Gzira 10, Fgura, Zurrieq, St. George’s and Msida 9, Rabat 8 and Birzebbuga 1.
