Andre Schembri quits FSV Frankfurt

Malta international striker Andre Schembri announced that he had terminated his contract with 2. Bundesliga side FSV Frankfurt due to personal reasons.

Schembri had joined FSV Frankfurt this summer after an excellent season with Omonia Nicosia where he had scored no less than seventeen goals. With FSV Frankfurt, Schembri played nine league matches, scoring none but scored his only goal in the German Cup in a 1-5 defeat to Hoffenheim.

Andre Schembri made his Premier League debut with Hibernians in season 2002/03 but mid-way through season 2004/05, he was transferred to Marsaxlokk. In summer 2007, he moved to Germany to play for Eintracht Braunschweig. Schembri then moved to Carl Zeiss Jena, spending one year before joining Austria Karnten in Austria in summer 2009. However in January, he joined Ferencvaros in Hungary where he spent eighteen months. In 2010/11, he had an excellent season with the Fradi, scoring sixteen goals in 27 matches.

In summer 2011, he joined Olympiakos Volou in the Greek Super League but a few months later he moved to Panionios after Volou were relegated due to match-fixing allegations. In season 2012/13, he moved to Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus and soon established himself as a key player for the club.
