Balzan FC appoint new coach

Balzan FC have appointed Marko Micovic as their new coach while Bojan Stamatovic was appointed as assistant coach. Micovic replaces Oliver Spiteri who stepped down earlier this month after a three-year spell at the club.

The appointment of Micovic and Stamatovic follows that of another Serbian national Vladimir Simovic who was appointed Sporting Director and General Manager last month.

President Anton Tagliaferro said: “After an extensive search, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Marko Micovic and Bojan Stamatovic to the positions of Head Coach and Assistant Coach respectively of the first team. Both coaches are UEFA A qualified and both have outstanding track records working as professional coaches at professional clubs in Serbia and Bosnia.”

“The vision of the club remains as before – to have a strong competitive team with a target of being in the top 3 and to also build our Academy to be amongst the most professional on the island. We are looking forward to Marko and Bojan arriving and together with our new Sporting Director, I believe Balzan will now have one of the most professional set up of any club in Malta.”

Tagliaferro added: “I am also looking forward to this new coaching team improving our first team greatly tactically as well as also working closely with all our Academy coaches and players to help our promising young players develop into first team players. The first priority now for Marko, Bojan and Vlad is to get our squad ready for the upcoming Europa League games at the end of June and beginning of July, after which we shall begin our preparations for the 17/18 Premier League season.”
