BOV Division 1: Comfortable wins for Lija, Swieqi

Lija Athletic and Swieqi United registered comfortable wins in two of the three BOV First Division matches on Tuesday.

At the Centenary Stadium, Swieqi defeated Qrendi 4-1. Ibrahim Salis gave Swieqi a two goal lead with a brace on the 18th and 33rd. Kyle Muscat added another on the 36th and one minute in the second half, Salis completed his hat-trick. Luca Brincat scored a consolation goal on 71 minutes.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, Lija beat Marsa 4-1. A result which condemns Marsa to playing in Division 2 next season. Andrea Azzopardi opened the score on the 26th and a brace by Erjon Beu on the 51st and 68th gave Lija a comfortable lead. Hideyuki Kawamura pulled one back on 81 minutes but Koken Kuroki sealed the issue with a fourth goal in added time.

In a match at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Zejtun Corinthians and Vittoriosa Stars shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

Sirens lead the way on 49 points, followed by Gudja on 45, Santa Lucia 35, Naxxar and Swieqi 33, Pembroke 32, Lija 31, Zebbug 30, Mqabba 28, Zejtun and Vittoriosa 27, Qrendi 20, San Gwann 19 and Marsa 5.
