BOV Challenge League: Swieqi beat Pieta’ Hotspurs in nine-goal thriller

Swieqi United maintained a perfect start in the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Pieta’ Hotspurs 5-4 at the Centenary Stadium in one of the four matches in programme on Sunday.

Neil Pace Cocks put the Hotspurs ahead after just two minutes and Diego Mosquera Segura doubled the score on the 20th. However, Swieqi reduced the gap thanks to a goal by Andrew Shaw on the 29th and equalised courtesy of an Alan Schembri Wismayer penalty on the 42nd. Ibrahim Salis made it 3-2 six minutes in the second half and four minutes later, James Scicluna restored equilibrium. Ibrahim Salis converted a penalty on the 65th and five minutes later, Kurt Muscat increased the lead for Swieqi. James Scicluna scored a fourth goal for the Hotspurs five minutes from time.

At the Centenary Stadium, Qrendi registered a second consecutive win as they beat Zebbug Rangers 2-0 thanks to goals by Alex Nilsson on the 35th and Dasser Sammut on the 85th.

In another match at the Centenary Stadium, St. Andrews claimed their first three points as they defeated Vittoriosa Stars 2-0 thanks to a brace by Joseph Farrugia.

Meanwhile at the Victor Tedesco Stadium, San Gwann defeated St. George’s. Attah Chibueze put San Gwann ahead on the 22nd and went on to double the score on the 67th with Andrea Zammit adding another seven minutes from time.
