Champions Hamrun take on Birkirkara in big match for match day 2

Following a 1-2 defeat to Valletta in their first outing, champions Hamrun Spartans will be all out to bounce back as they take on Birkirkara at the National Stadium, kick-off at 19:00, in one of the BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday.

This will definitely be no easy game for the Spartans considering that Birkirkara opened their commitments with an emphatic 3-0 win over Mosta following a harsh elimination from the UEFA Europa Conference League when they were ousted by Olimpija Ljubljana of Slovenia on penalties.

While Hamrun could not count on Matthew Guillaumier and Luke Gambin, Birkirkara continued to strengthen their squad with the arrival of Kilian Bevis and in particular of central defender Enzo Ruiz.

Meanwhile at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, Valletta face Balzan, kick-off at 19:00.

Both Valletta and Balzan earned the three points from their first outing as Valletta defeated Hamrun 2-1 and Balzan beat Sliema Wanderers 1-0.

The Citizens made a very good impression in the clash with the Spartans while Balzan shared the exchanges throughout the game with Sliema, notching the winner deep into stoppage time. However, a win for either side could hand them sole leadership in case Birkirkara fail to beat Hamrun in the other game.
