Rabat Ajax present new signings ahead of Challenge League campaign

Newly-promoted BOV Challenge League side Rabat Ajax presented their new signings ahead of the 2021/22 campaign during a press conference which was held at the club premises on Wednesday. The Magpies, who were promoted after winning the BOV National Amateur League play-offs last season, will be playing their first game on Saturday against Zejtun Corinthians.

Rabat signed four new foreign players, namely Manuel Angel Bustos from Sirens, Albanian defender Elmir Lekaj who played for KF Vllaznia in Albania and KF Arberia in Kosovo, Uruguayan centre forward Gaston Poncet Otero who had started his carrer at Penarol and later played for other clubs in Uruguay, Chile and Colombia and Macedonian winger Petar Kanzurov who had played for Metalurg Skopje and FK Skopje before spells with San Gwann and Tarxien Rainbows. The club also welcomed back two former players – Larens Vella and Kurt Muscat who played for Mosta and Swieqi United respectively last season. Another two new signings are defender Miguel Aquilina and goalkeeper Kyle Barbara.

Addressing the press conference were president Dr Keith Farrugia and vice-presidents Dr Sam Abela and Dr Chris Cilia and coach Vesko Petrovic. 

Petrovic was confirmed for a fourth year at the helm. The technical staff has been strengthened with the arrival of team manager Josef Tonna and technical director Jonathan Pearson. 

Also present for the press conference were two special guests – former players Carmel Busuttil and Paul Zammit.
