BOV Challenge League: Marsa win eight-goal thriller

Marsa moved second in Group B of the BOV Challenge League as they defeated Senglea Athletic 5-3 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Gonzalo Nicolas Virano put Marsa ahead on the 2nd minute but Senglea turned the score in their favour with goals by Jairo Andres Tenorio Viveros on the 9th and a brace by Matheus de Lucena Guariento on the 16th and 22nd. Amadou Samb reduced the gap for Marsa on the 36th and a brace by Luca Brincat on the 56th and 57th put Marsa 4-3 ahead. Siraj Arab Eddin sealed the issue with a goal on the 90th.

Zebbug lead the way with 30 points followed by Marsa on 29, Tarxien 28, Pieta 27, Qrendi 20, Fgura, St. Andrews and Swieqi 19, Senglea 12, Mgarr and Luqa 10.

Meanwhile in Group A, Marsaxlokk maintained the challenge for promotion with a 2-0 win over Mqabba.

Augusto Rene Caseres scored twice on the 20th and 75th to hand Pablo Doffo’s side the three points.

Pembroke lead the way with 34 points, followed by Naxxar on 31, Zejtun 27, Marsaxlokk 26, Melita 24, San Gwann 23, Lija 21, Mqabba 17, Vittoriosa 13, Rabat 10 and St. George’s 4.
